Welcome to 2025

Happy New Year

How was your first day of 2025? What did you do? Who did you spend it with?

And what are your goals for the new year? I spent the day at home with my family.

I’m excited about the new year. I’ll be working on my documentary film in 2025, and I’ll also be leading small groups to sacred sites of Nigeria and Benin. (If you’re interested in coming let me know).

Be focused as you move forward in 2025. Be determined. Be dedicated.

I also think it’s important to have a mentor in the area you wish to grow in. A mentor’s job is not only to guide, but to push you out of your comfort zone.

I have spiritual mentors, financial mentors, and business mentors.

This photograph was taken during my travels in Nigeria last month. This man is a mentor to many. He’s a babalawo, or traditional priest in the Ifa spiritual tradition of the Yoruba people.
Like many of the elders I met, he’s been practicing his craft since childhood, and he’s still fully committed.

One of his gifts is teaching the art of divination. During one of his sessions, he was trying to help a student understand how everything in the universe and in divination ebbs and flows. It always has and always will.

“Life zigzags,” he said over and over again. You need to remember this as you move forward in 2025. “Life will zigzag.”

Don’t begin 2025 thinking everything should magically go your way. It won’t.

Life will zigzag, but it can be fun. This is where the growth happens. Maybe your ancestors have a better plan.

Get a mentor. Stay focused. Stay in the game.

Let’s see what 2025 has in store for us. I will be here to support you.
Love James

Happy Holidays

Just wanted to send a quick note to say I’m grateful for you and look forward to sharing more inspiration with you in 2025.

Do you celebrate the holidays? If so, how? I’ll be spending time at home with my family. I’m sending you good energy.

I just returned from Nigeria, West Africa. I’ve been to Nigeria four times, but my most recent trip was the one I enjoyed the most.

In 2025, I will be leading small groups to the sacred sites of Nigeria, and possibly Benin too. If this is something you are interested in, please let me know.

This pic was taken at Abeokuta, Nigeria, West Africa.

In the Yoruba language, Abeokuta means “under the rock.”

I’m standing near the bottom of an important historical site, sacred to the Yoruba people.

The sacred site, Olumo Rock, is a huge, boulder formation that protected our ancestors during ancient wars.

I hope to you get to experience it one day.

I travelled to Nigeria to help one of my clients. But I was also scouting locations for my documentary film project, Across the King’s River.

My trip to Nigeria changed me so much. I’m not the same person. The person who returned is not the person who went.

I believe another chapter of your life is awaits you, and that your ancestors have a plan to help you fulfill your purpose.

Don’t let past experiences stop you from opening your heart, taking risks, and living again.

I look forward to hearing from you. Happy Holidays once again.

Love James

Just Take The Next Step

Bermuda was amazing…

And life changing. I went to Bermuda to promote my book, Meditations Across the King’s River and to do readings for clients.

I had so many sacred encounters. I’m still reflecting on the lessons I’ve learned, the love I felt, and the wisdom I shared.

Don’t get me wrong…

It wasn’t a vacation by any means.

In fact, I worked almost every day during my month-long stay on the island.

But I definitely left Bermuda feeling more inspired about my calling as a writer and healer.

I have more faith there’s is a Higher Power and a divine plan for our lives.

We can all tap into this Higher Power; We can all have more impact.

After Bermuda, I’m even more devoted to following inspiration and my calling.

I wish you could feel what I feel inside.

More joy! More gratitude! More clarity! I pray you experience these gifts too.

This photo with my friend, Alexa, was taken at John’s Smith Bay Beach, early one morning.

We didn’t swim. The water is too cold for swimming this time of year, she explained.

So we just walked and talked for a bit.

Alexa is a brilliant mind, a beautiful soul, and a great friend.

I love how she navigates through life. She’s not afraid to take chances. She speaks her mind.

She knows what she wants. She’s going after it.

Take a tip from Alexa.

You don’t have to be afraid to take chances either. This is your season. You deserve more!

Stop waiting for the perfect time. Stop waiting for another sign. You saw the sign already.

Go where you feel led. Just take the next step. Let the ancestors do the rest.

Another chapter is waiting for you. A universe beyond this universe.

It’s time for you to explore it.

If you don’t have the second edition of my book, Meditations Across the King’s River, we would love your support.

It’s a powerful collection of affirmations, insights and African-inspired wisdom.

MATKR was the number one new release on Amazon in two categories when it launched in January.

It has been featured in more than two hundred media outlets including Business Insider and Asia One, a leading media provider in Singapore.

You Can’t Stop Now

Greetings,

I had a great talk with my friend Jeanette recently.

She describes herself as “a proud daughter of the Haitian Diaspora raised by working class Black and Brown Los Angeles.”

Jeanette is an international scholar-activist, life coach, and studying Ifa priestess.

Her coaching is rooted in black internationalism and African spirituality, and she coaches in both English and Spanish.

Our conversation made me I realize I had been missing out on something really important.

Jeanette pointed out that it’s rare for readers to have the opportunity to talk with authors they love one-on-one.

She’s right….

Although I’ve done several media interviews, before and after my book was published, I haven’t done any recorded interviews with readers — until now.

That didn’t feel right to me…

We decided to do a Zoom call because we felt others might benefit from our conversation.

Conversation with James Weeks, Author of Meditations Across The King's River, and scholar-activist Jeannete Charles from james Weeks on Vimeo.

We spoke of many things — the spiritual experiences in the Caribbean that inspired me to write my book, the forces that led me into the Ifa spiritual tradition, why I decided to include chapters on technology and finance in Meditations Across The King’s River.

Jeanette, who lives in Southern California, shared why the book touched her deeply: “I felt like I was with you in Guadeloupe. I felt I was with you in Jamaica. I felt I was with you and your son in Nigeria. It felt like part of my own healing journey.”

“It was the first book I read cover to cover during the stay at home order. For me, it was a way to release the pent up anxiety, the pressure, and the concern that has been growing since covid 19.”

…Jeanette also shared one of her favorite affirmations from the book:

“When the story of your life is told, let it be said that you went after your dreams. That you had vision and could see what others could not see. That you had courage and did what others did not do. That you had faith and persevered to the end.”

My time with Jeanete went by so quickly. I didn’t have time to say everything I was hoping to say.

But now that Jeanette has inspired me, I’ll be doing more intimate Zoom calls with readers and scholars, and I’ll be doing my first FB live event soon as well.

If my work has impacted you in some way, and you want to talk to me about it, let’s make it happen.

I know you have wisdom that others can benefit from too.

You can’t stop now, , and neither can I.

The world needs your gift, your vision, your presence. There’s so much at stake, and you can make a difference.

2021 is right around the corner…

Don’t walk in fear. Tap into what inspires you and focus on that.

So many things are still possible for you.

Let me know what you’ve been up to, and I will write you back ASAP.

Talk soon,

James Weeks

Set New Goals

Greetings…

It’s time to set new goals…

That’s what my friend, Jewel Love, told me when we met for coffee in Oakland about two weeks ago.

Jewel is a therapist and the founder of Black Executive Men…

He’s also my accountability partner. We help each other stay on track professionally.

Jewel Love

When we met for coffee, I was reminding him that less than two years ago we were sharing our dreams. He was hoping to build his private practice as a therapist, and I was telling him about my plans for launching my book Meditations Across The King’s River.

Today, Jewel’s business is booming, and my book has arrived in many homes around the world. We are both grateful.

Near the end of the second chapter of my book, I share strategies that help keep me focused each day.

But since 2019 is here, I just wanted to share a tip on goal setting. You don’t necessarily have to set new goals, but you absolutely must decide what goals are most important to you and focus on them.

Having too many goals is just as unwise as having zero goals.

Since Jewel is a gifted therapist, I’ve asked him to share three tips for coping with depression and anxiety as you navigate through 2019. Here’s what he suggested:

Therapy: Don’t be afraid to seek therapy, says Jewel, who’s specialty is psychotherapy. If you’re struggling emotionally from current or past wounds, meeting with a gifted therapist can help you heal.

Have a Wellness Practice: Meditate, walk in nature, eat a balanced diet, and stay away from toxic people who leave you feeling drained. Pick a wellness practice that resonates with you, and commit to doing it at least three times a week.

Share Your Gifts With The World: “Many people are depressed because they’re not living in alignment with their purpose and higher calling,” says Jewel. “As you give your creative gifts away, it will likely lessen the load in your own soul.”

This is all for now. To get more wellness tips from Jewel Love, sign up for his FREE newsletter at Black Executive Men.

Please know I will be here to guide you through 2019. Feel free to inbox me and share your goals for the new year. As you know, I always write back.

On behalf of my family and elders in Africa, I wish you and your family a prosperous, healthy and happy new year.

Thanks for your support of my new book and for your well wishes over the years.  Here’s the link to get your copy of Meditations Across The King’s River
