If you’re struggling financially you’re not alone..
The reality is that most us are struggling for one reason or another, on one level or another but the beautiful thing is we can all take steps to become financially stronger and wiser.
And it starts with financial literacy…

That’s why I decided to include an essay on balancing spiritual and financial growth in my upcoming book, Meditations Across The King’s River.
My book will be published in November (December at the latest).
Meditations Across The King’s River is a collection of inspirational quotes, but it also includes essays inspired by my spiritual journey and travels throughout Africa and the Caribbean.
I chose to include an essay on finances, because its rarely talked about in our community. There’s this pervasive attitude that if you’re a spiritual person, finances will just fall in place by itself.
Well, here’s a wake up call…
A report by the Institute of Policy Studies says “the median wealth for black Americans will fall to $0 by 2053 if current trends continue.”
The report also says that “Latino-American, who are also experiencing a downward wealth slide will hit $0 about two decades later.”
I don’t mean to alarm you. I’m just trying to get a conversation going.
But you don’t have to take my word for it. You can look up the data yourself. There’s tons of it. Can’t go into all the reasons for these trends right now. Not enough time, but I will in the book.
Here’s the thing, If the wealthy are constantly educating themselves and their children about finances (even though they have more than enough), shouldn’t we be educating ourselves too?
That’s what I’m doing…
I’ll share some of the strategies I’m using in Meditations Across The King’s River, but I encourage you to take steps on your own to equip yourself with financial knowledge. You will need it.
For now, I would like to leave you with a few tips for from my friend Tee Francis, a financial healer in Honolulu.
- Understand wants versus needs.
- Define expenses versus investments.
- Understand internal and external factors that lead to debt.
- Eliminate fears about finance.
Someone needs to break the cycle of financial hardship in your family. I pray that person is you. If not you, then who?
This is all for now. I’ve got to go. We are putting the final touches on Meditations Across The King’s River. It will be available for purchase very soon. Thanks in advance for your support.

You have to keep it moving…
That’s the best advice I can give. We haven’t spoken in a while so I’m not sure what challenges you’re facing these days.
But I can tell you this with 100 percent conviction…
If you follow what your Spirit has been telling you to do, you probably won’t feel as stuck. And you will have more momentum, more peace of mind and more energy to pursue other things that are important to you.
Yes, beloved. Keep it moving. That’s what I am doing.

My upcoming book, Meditations Across The King’s River will be available for purchase in late October, early November. I am excited because I have a lot to share with you. Can’t wait.
I am still working on my film too. Last year, we created a new trailer, assembled a new production team and redesigned our website. You can check it out here: Visit Our Website
Filming in the Bay Area this summer, hopefully the Caribbean this fall, Africa early next year.
Now, I know it’s one thing to say keep it moving, and it’s another thing to actually do it. I don’t know what works for others but I am happy to share what helps me every single day.
Be Patient: Trust in divine timing. Progress does not always mean moving forward, sometimes it means taking a step back, or changing the course of direction. Slow down. Enjoy the journey and allow yourself to be led by Spirit.
Listen Inwardly: Do not let the expectations of others dictate what you should do.The opinions of others are not always relevant to the life lessons you are meant to learn and your soul’s journey. Only you can determine what is best for you.
Renew Your Spirit: Do something to nurture your spirit daily. If you don’t have a daily spiritual practice start one. If you don’t, the negativity of others will throw you off balance and off course. Find a practice that works for you and stick with it.
Chase One Rabbit: My mentors say if you chase two rabbits, you won’t catch any rabbits. But if you chase one rabbit you will succeed. You can’t chase every idea that comes along, even if it’s a good one. Focus on what will deliver the most value.
Eliminate Distractions: Technology should be a tool, not a trap. You don’t have to respond to every single text or phone call immediately. Same thing with the internet. Limit your time. You don’t have to click every update or news feed. Get on and get off.
Hope this helps…
I have to run. I’m busy but never too busy for you. If you respond to this article, I will definitely write you back asap. I guarantee it. Here to support you 100 percent always.

I appeared as a guest on Master Mind, Body and Spirit recently…
It’s a show hosted by Matt Belair. He’s an author, speaker, athlete, coach and speaker. His show is a top rated podcast on Spirituality on Itunes and has 200 five stars reviews.
Here’s the link to the You Tube Clip: https://youtu.be/6wpPdN3o7DE

We spoke of many things: I shared a bit about my spiritual journey into the Ifa traditions. But I also spoke about:
- How we can keep ourselves grounded with a connection with nature.
- Why having a daily spiritual practice is crucial for our spiritual and emotional well being.
- Different ways our purpose might be revealed to us.
- How progress doesn’t always mean moving forward.
- Core principles of the Ifa Spiritual Tradition.
- How to live a more purposeful and fulfilling life and more.
I enjoyed talking to Matt. It was a short, meaningful exchange and I would love to talk to him again when my book, Meditations Across The King’s River is published in November.

As a spiritual advisor, clients sometimes tell me they don’t feel connected to their ancestors and are worried their prayers are not being answered.
Usually, when I hear this, it’s because something in their life is not going the way they think it should go.
I have news for them and I have news for you too…
Let go of your expectations and allow Spirit to guide you. They know what they are doing. My journey has taught me that your ancestors and spirit guides ARE working with you even when things seem to be going against you. I call this the mystery of perfect imperfection.

My maternal grandmother, Alma Doward
…See, even in imperfection amazing things can happen for you. Sometimes the ancestors will mess something up, so they can help improve an area of your life that needs fixing.
One of my most profound spiritual experiences happened when my wife, Stephanie, got into a minor car accident in Oakland about one year ago. The accident set off an amazing chain of events that led to the selling of my sister’s land on the island of St. Croix.
That car accident had to happen…
I believe the accident was planned by Dad who passed in 2008. He was the original owner of the land. The sale of the land will help us take care of my sick Mom who has two full time caregivers. It happened just as we were about to run out of funds for Mom’s care.
Here’s how the brilliant plan of the ancestors unfolded…
After my wife got in the accident, she needed an estimate to repair our car. But when she called our mechanic in Oakland, she was told he was on St. Croix. Since I was on the island at the time, she asked me to call our mechanic to get an estimate.
I didn’t have his cell number but I knew someone who would – his business partner.
When I went looking for our mechanic’s business partner, he wasn’t in his office. Turns out he was around the corner at another business that happens to be on my sister’s land.
I got the phone number I needed, and just as I was about to drive off, the man who runs the business on my sister’s land walked up to my car and said he wanted to buy the property.
It took one year for the sale to go through; it wasn’t easy though. It was hard. I can’t go through the details of all the challenges we had to overcome in order for the sale to take place.
…I’m sharing my story just to make a point.
Out of an imperfect incident like a car accident, many things happened in a perfect way that helped my family in a significant way.
Now back to you. I don’t know what you’re going through right now, but I know this for sure. Your ancestors are not asleep; they are on the job. They are doing their very best to look after you.
…Let them help you.
But don’t make the mistake of thinking help must arrive in your way or in your time. Be patient and keep the faith. Leave everything in the capable hands of your ancestors.

I know I haven’t written for a while…
…And that’s because I’ve been a bit busy. I’ve been working on my book, Meditations Across the King’s River, which will be available for purchase sometime in August.
My wife, Stephanie, a former editor at Essence, is editing my manuscript and Mark Feijao Milligan, a gifted artist from St. Croix who’s shaking up the art world, is designing the book cover. You can learn more about Feijao’s art here: https://bit.ly/2J7IFBc

After working on this book for the past two years or so, I’m excited to be launching it soon…
As you know, Meditations Across The King’s River, is a collection of spiritual affirmations and short, insightful essays based on my journey and experiences in Africa and the Caribbean.
While writing this book, however, it became clear to me that I’m not the only one with something to say…
You’ll also be hearing some of the wisdom of my elders and ancestors who have passed over years ago. Plus, you’ll benefit from the insight of some of my clients too. I’m certain you’ll look at your life and struggles through a different lens once you hear what they have to say.
So many diverse, powerful voices in one book…
I want to encourage you to share your story one day because it matters too, probably more than you know. The world needs to hear from you because we’re all in need of a bit more healing, guidance, wisdom and encouragement. Let’s face it, these are tough times.
You don’t have to write a book or produce a film in order for your story to have a huge impact in the lives of others Think of the souls that poured so much into you but are no longer in this world. By sharing your story, those powerful souls get to expand their legacy because your stories are connected. They can live again and teach others through you!
Don’t know about you, but I find that exciting…
And think about your children. Don’t they deserve to learn more about you? Things you’ve done, places you’ve gone, lessons you’ve learned? Don’t assume you don’t have much to share, I know for a fact you do, and it’s probably way more powerful than you think.
I would love to hear more about your story and if you plan to share it one day. If so, when? If you respond to this newsletter, I’ll write back as soon as possible. For now, I’ve got to run. Still tweaking essays in my book here and there, but soon it will be on it’s way.
