Land of the Bold Ancestors

After being “shaken” by what they learn in Nigeria, the second stop on their daunting journey is Burkina Faso, West Africa, home of the Dagara – a people well known for beliefs and practices that “outsiders find both fascinating and frightening.” There they experience the inner world of Malidoma Some, one of the leading voices of African spirituality, and his elders, who are also behind the King’s River project and have powerful things to say.

“The Dagara connection with beings from the Spirit World has resulted in the accumulation of firsthand knowledge of subjects regarded in the West as paranormal, magical or spiritual,” writes Malidoma Some in the book, the “The Healing Wisdom of Africa.”  Weaving stories of mythology, indigenous science and spirit-beings, the Dagara present a startling view of the African spiritual landscape in Across The King’s River that challenges the very foundation of the way that we think and the way that we live.

A Visit From The Other World

Weary after their encounters among the Yoruba and the Dagara but determined to press on, the trio find themselves among the Lebu people of Senegal with Dr. Charles Finch, PhD, an author and physician who has done extensive research among traditional healers and gate-keepers in West Africa.  Rabs are cosmo-spiritual beings that are invoked by healers to alleviate personal and communal suffering. Through Dr. Finch’s connections, Tulani has the opportunity to immerse herself in a ancient healing ceremony led by a team of women healers known as ndeppkats. But the messages that are channeled through this ceremony have deep implications for us all.

Great Minds

Artfully weaving anecdotes of their odyssey with interviews from an international team of scholars including Dr. Martha Vega, an authority on Yoruba-derived traditions, Dr. Charles Finch MD, former director of International Health at Morehouse, Dr. Daniel Nettle, anthropologist and co-author of the book Vanishing Voices, Dr. Ron Eglash, professor of science and technology and Dr. Robert Voeks, ethnobotanist and author of Sacred Leaves of Candomble – Across the King’s River River not only inspires but forces us to question our version of reality. This compelling and unforgettable masterpiece of scholarship and spirit beckons us on the path of wisdom, healing, adventure, science and self-discovery.
